Digital Storytelling

Digital Storytelling is similar to podcasting in the sense that you have the option to record your voice and place it online. I went to several Digital Storytelling sites and there are a variety of programs. I looked at Yodio which allows a person to record their voice and place it over pictures, Animoto which allows a person to create videos using other videos or pictures and his/her voice or other music, and GoAnimate which allows a person to record their voice or use other music and create cartoons online. Each of these sites had the option to record a person's voice by phone. The site I enjoyed the most was GoAnimate. It reminded me of a program I had used in my informatics class called Alice where a person could create digital stories, but could not use their own voice. GoAnimate was simple to use. I created a short cartoon called The Meeting.

The tutorial was simple and the introducing video was simple to understand. This is the introduction video:

I could definately see myself using this program in the future. I could see myself having my Art students use this program for a project. I could also see myself using the other Storytelling programs to create variation in my lectures. I could have my voice recorded over specific pictures that need to be memorized linking the concepts that need to be learned to the pictures. I could place these recordings online which would be helpful if a students was absent or studying.

Podcasting

A podcast is an audio file that people can load and listen to. Podcasts are used for a wide variety of things. So far in my life I have used them to do group projects only. It was easy to update each member on where I was in my work by posting a podcast on our website. Podcasts have been very helpful in my college career. When a professor was absent he/she could simply record a podcast, send us an e-mail, and then we could listen to it and receive the lecture without the professor needing to be present.

Me

My name is Ariel Rowley. I am currently a college student aspiring to become an art teacher. I hope to be the first of my mother's children to graduate from college. I enjoy reading and creating things. I dislike close-minded people.

I had fun creating this blog. I tried to find a template and colors that I would enjoy looking at frequently. I also tried to find an image that reflected my personality. I chose flowers in the sunlight because I am open to new things and absorb all the information I encounter in school and other aspects of my life.
